Consultation

Your consultant will take the time to listen to your goals and any concerns you may have, and give you all the advice and support you need to make the right decision. He'll also recommend which type of procedure would be best for you and what sort of weight loss and health benefits you can expect

If you do wish to go ahead you will need to pay a deposit and the pay the balance prior to your surgery.

Referral

If you wish to go ahead you'll need the support of, and a referral letter from, your GP. If this isn't possible you can self refer.

Surgery

Once you decide to proceed with surgery you’ll be given instructions on how to prepare yourself and a dieticians appointment. When you arrive at the hospital you’ll meet an expert, friendly team (from the receptionist to our specialist surgery nurses). If there’s anything at all you need, just ask.At every step of your surgery you’ll be closely monitored by your surgeon, anaesthetist and nurses to make sure you’re completely comfortable.

After Surgery

Your operation is just the first step in your weight loss journey. Now you need to start adapting, physically and emotionally, to the changes that will start happening to your body:

Your diet

After your surgery has taken place you need to stick carefully to the post-op eating and drinking instructions you'll be provided with so that you don't stretch your stomach pouch too much. For the first few weeks this involves a liquid diet before progressing onto mashed then solid food. After that you need to:

  • Eat three meals a day. You'll find this easier as you won't feel as hungry between meals
  • Eat healthy, solid foods rather than soft foods which tend to contain more fats and therefore more calories
  • Take tiny bites, chew each mouthful thoroughly and stop when you feel full
  • Don't drink at meal times or for one hour afterwards - liquids push food through the stomach more quickly so you feel hungry again sooner
  • Only drink zero-calorie drinks and avoid fizzy drinks which can cause pain

Exercise

As you lose weight you'll begin to feel more active and this is an ideal time to improve your fitness. It doesn't mean hours pounding the treadmill in the gym, just simple walking and swimming are ideal.

Two Year Aftercare

Our aftercare is among the best in the UK. We’ll continue to check your progress when you go home and if, at any time, you have any worries, it’s always good to know we’re here to help.
